The news that coup leader Min Aung Hlaing and former Karen National Union (KNU) President Saw Mutu Say Poe held talks on issues related to peace in Nay Pyi Taw on September 30 has been widely propagated by military lobbies in various forms. Recently, I have noticed that the military lobbies and leaders are using the word “peace” because of the increasing number of military casualties on war fronts across the country.
Coinciding with the case of the former KNU chairman, the 8th anniversary ceremony of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) will be held in Nay Pyi Taw on October 15, and the military leader himself said that not only signed ethnic groups but also groups that have not yet signed can attend the ceremony if they want peace.
Looking at the fact that the military leader himself has invited the ethnic forces to talk about peace, it would seem that the military really wants peace, but in reality, it can be said that it is just pretending like the example of selling dog meat with goat’s head attached.
After 2021, the military force of the terrorist army was quite destroyed due to the opposition to the military dictatorship from all over the country, and many military soldiers were injured. In addition, military personnel who did not accept the dictatorship left the army and defected to the revolutionary side.
In addition to the decrease in military strength on both sides, as well as the remaining forces in the army and facing revolutionary wars across the country, it must be said that by the time these two years have arrived, the soldiers at the bottom of the military council have been quite tired. Therefore, during the recent battles with the revolutionary forces, the most affected by the army, the number of soldiers who was inside in Military fleeing is increasing.
In the early years of 2021, when the army is said to be strong and has received reasonable support from the people, the armed forces of the ethnic armed forces, which they believe they can crush, are forcibly transferred into border guard forces. Regarding peace, there have been tough attitudes and unfair dealings.
Most notably, the Northern Alliance, including AA, was declared a terrorist organization by the military during their heyday and was not invited to the peace table. Even the “UWSA” force, which is said to be strong, attended the peace talks as observers. This is probably why they don’t fully believe in peace led by the military.
Looking at all these factors, no matter how mildly the military council talks about peace, these are only a temporary rest when their strength is weak, and it is certain that once they gain the upper hand, they will once again carry out malicious attacks on the revolutionary groups. Therefore, the military council’s talk of peace is fake, and to achieve real peace in Myanmar, the key is to end the military dictatorship.
Yours Sincerely,
Chan Min
