Sources on the revolutionary forces say that a pilot of the military council’s attack helicopter that was shot down in Karenni State has been captured.
The downed helicopter was a K-8W fighter aircraft of the Myanmar Military. It was shot down on November 11th 2023.
According to a report by Mizzima, a local media outlet, it was confirmed that the captured pilot was the pilot of the K-8W jet fighter when the villagers arrested him on suspicion while he was begging for rice in the countryside.
General Zaw Min Tun, who is in charge of the information of the Military Council, said that the plane was not shot down but had an engine failure during a training flight. Army supporters also spread the news that the two pilots were rescued and returned to the Taungoo Air Force.
On November 11th, together with the video file of how the Karenni Revolutionary Army was able to shoot down the attack helicopter and on November 20th, the picture of the captured pilot has spread on social media and it has been confirmed that the pilot is Major Khaing Thant Moe of DSA intake (44).
“In the past, the people liked the airmen’s uniforms. Now the pilots have become the ones who kill the people. I wonder if the wives of the airmen and their own husbands will be able to be as proud as before if this happened,” said a member of the People’s Soldiers’ Wives to the soldiers’ wives in the army.
